2023 5’10 G Sophie Swanson has impressed many in her first year of high school basketball at Barrington High School(IL). She has been given the opportunity to run the show for her team and has done an excellent job quarterbacking them. Being asked to do more than expected of a freshman playing varsity basketball hasn’t been a problem for her. Swanson’s ability to put pressure on defenses by playing downhill has been a huge part of her success this season. She understands when to attack offensively, as well as when to slow the pace. This ability to change her pace of play keeps her opponents off balance and gives her an advantage on offense. Sophie also does well at pulling up in transition and knocking down the midrange shot, which is rare for a high school ball player. She stretches the floor with her three point range and can finish at the basket with both hands. On the defensive end Swanson is very active and does a great job deflecting passes. She’s not afraid to play physical inside and rebounds the ball well using her size and strength. Swanson’s ceiling and potential is extremely high and she’s expected to make great strides throughout her high school career.
