2022 5’9 G Joy Bergstrom is one to keep an eye on. She had an excellent freshman year at St Viator High School(IL) and her sophomore season didn’t disappoint. In her second year, Joy has already become the leader of her varsity team and it’ll probably remain that way until she graduates. The way she plays the game is infectious and her teammates feed off of her energy throughout the game. Bergstrom is very crafty in the way she plays and uses that to her advantage when making plays on the court. She attacks defenders off the dribble with the ability to go both ways and has an exceptional step-back jumper when she’s cut off. Her willingness to facilitate and makes plays for her teammates is one of the reasons that she’s been so successful in her first two seasons. She finishes well in traffic and is a sharp shooter. Her range expands beyond the three point line and she can shoot it from deep. She pushes the ball in transition and does a great job seeing the floor for open players. Joy has quick hands and is able to deflect passes which lead to easy points. She’s willing to give up her body in games and not afraid to take charges or get on the floor for loose balls. Bergstrom is fundamentally sound in all aspects of her game and definitely improving each year. She should have a great summer playing leading into her junior year.
